View the report from our most recent ERCOT Public Webinar focusing on “Nodal Myths, Realities, and Risk Mitigation in ERCOT”. Key takeaways from the report include the following:
- Past nodal performance cannot be used to guide the future. Only 10% of nodes in the 90th Day-Ahead ATC price percentile in 2019 remained in the top 50th percentile in 2022; nodal persistence in ERCOT is low.
- Only 55% of transmission planning in 2018 was realized by 2023; in-depth analysis based on power flow modeling is required to forecast economic capacity expansion and transmission upgrades.
- Solar overbuild in South Houston can worsen nodal GWA basis; co-siting a battery with a solar asset can mitigate nodal risks to a certain degree.
- The effectiveness and mitigation power of different strategies need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on risk types, asset types, offtake prices, and degrees of risk tolerance.
