Software Solutions Graduate Analyst, Berlin

Graduate Experience:
Maya Sagdieva

What led you to Aurora, and what did you do before?

After completing my Bachelor’s in Chemistry at UCL, I spent some time working in investment banking before pursuing a Master’s in Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College London. I found out about Aurora through some SEF alumni who have greatly enjoyed working there and really encouraged me to apply—and I am very glad that I did!

Can you describe a typical day in your role?

I am currently part of the Customer Success team in Software Solutions, where I support our software subscribers and help them get the most value from our tools. This includes answering any questions on our modelling, power market design, and policies, as well as helping to set up more complex simulations using our software. I also focus on quality assurance, especially when clients use our software for debt financing or portfolio valuations, ensuring our data and insights meet the high standards needed for these critical processes.

If you were to pitch your job to someone, what would you say you enjoyed the most?

For me, the most enjoyable part is the opportunity to work on many diverse projects, from exploring batteries to designing a new forecast for green gas. As a Graduate Analyst at Aurora, you rotate through different teams, including Advisory, Research, Software, and Commercial, so there’s always something new to learn and fresh perspectives to gain. It’s a great environment for anyone who loves tackling different challenges and constantly expanding their knowledge.

How would you describe the culture at Aurora?

Aurora has a culture that combines talent, enthusiasm, and a real drive to make a difference. It’s a supportive environment where you’re encouraged to grow and develop professionally, surrounded by people who are both highly skilled and genuinely passionate!

In what ways does Aurora support your sense of purpose in your career?

By helping clients in the energy field make well-informed decisions, I feel like the work we do in Aurora has an impact that goes beyond each project and helps move the sector toward a more sustainable future. It’s motivating to work in an environment that encourages us to make a meaningful difference.

What have you gained from your time at Aurora, and what do you hope to achieve next?

I have had the opportunity to work alongside some incredible people who are experts in their fields, and I’ve gained invaluable knowledge from them. Looking ahead, I hope to continue developing my skills and take on new challenges, ultimately working toward becoming an expert in the energy sector myself.

Reflecting on your start at Aurora, what's one thing you wish you would have known, and what advice would you give a new starter?

Aurora is very open and encouraging when it comes to challenging the status quo and sharing fresh perspectives. The team truly values innovative thinking, so don’t hesitate to share your ideas and ask questions—even early on. My advice to a newcomer would be to take full advantage of this supportive environment; it’s a place where curiosity is encouraged, and your unique insights can really make a difference!
