Business Infrastructure & Operations Manager, APAC

Position

Aurora has an exciting opportunity to join our fast-paced, growing company as the Business Infrastructure & Operations (BIO) Manager for the Asia-Pacific region. In this role, you will be working closely with senior stakeholders within the business including the Managing Director of the Asia-Pacific region and global heads of department. The role will formally report to the COO and will have responsibility for business operations for Aurora’s new market ventures (Japan and Singapore) and established offices (Sydney and Melbourne) in the Asia-Pacific region.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to think bigger picture but at the same time, you are not afraid to roll your sleeves up and get involved in the day-to-day operational work. In addition, you will need to be super organised, efficient and have great attention to detail.

We’re looking for a high-energy, results-driven individual with strong generalist experience across all aspects of business operations in an international business. You will know what good looks like and be able to shape initiatives that balance best practices with commercial and cultural requirements. The role has significant growth opportunities, as the company intends to expand rapidly over the next 24 months into growing Asian electricity markets.

Key responsibilities

Initially, a part of your primary responsibilities will be to oversee and execute the setup of the new local offices in the Asia-Pacific (Singapore and Tokyo), with support from the head office in Oxford and in-country operational staff.

Over time, after these offices are more established and have settled into a steadier state of operations, your primary responsibility is to have overall oversight for operations in Asia-Pacific, acting as the nexus between the head office in Oxford and the company’s internal stakeholders in Asia-Pacific. You will :

  • Line manage Office Manager(s) and provide overall team management of the BIO department in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Partner with the MD of Asia-Pacific in relation to any operational issues in the region, and resolve such issues either independently or through coordination with other departments
  • Prepare forecasting and budgets for the BIO department in accordance with company cadence (currently biannual) and guidelines
  • In partnership with other departments, develop capabilities required around People & Culture, recruitment, finance, and legal operating standards and Aurora culture in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Be familiar, at a high level, with local corporate, financial and employment practices and regulation
  • Oversee and manage all setup and maintenance of physical offices, including finding office rental options, moving in and equipment setup
  • Strategic management of supplier relationships
  • Implementation of policies and procedures to ensure smooth and efficient running of all operational aspects of the Asia-Pacific offices
  • Coordinate cross-departmental projects in operational departments, define cross-departmental processes, and communicate and enforce such processes
  • Identify and understand causes of inefficiency, propose and implement solutions with appropriate prioritisation
  • Continued responsibility for the setup of further new offices in Asia-Pacific as and when needed, with support from head office and professional advisers

Required attributes

  • Significant operational experience including but not limited to areas of HR, finance, legal and business administration, ideally within a fast-growing international consultancy or professional services business
  • Experience working across different international jurisdictions
  • Strong experience in best practices across operations, recruitment, and talent management.
  • Excellent commercial acumen and judgement
  • Must be able to hit the ground running—a self-starter, comfortable using their initiative and working autonomously
  • Outstanding communication skills—articulate, confident, and able to build relationships with and influence senior stakeholders
  • Able to think strategically while managing day-to-day activities hands-on
  • Strong project management skills—responsive and delivery-driven; well-organised and methodical approach
  • Evidence of having a passion for working with people and working beyond the confines of the job description
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)

Desirable attributes

  • Experience scaling and growing businesses across Southeast Asia or Japan would be highly valued
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Language skills relevant to South-East Asia would also be highly valued
