Powering the Energy Transition: Security of Supply in Poland

Poland has made significant strides in decarbonising its power system, with policies accelerating the phase-out of coal and the growing role of renewables and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Recent developments, such as the 2029 Capacity Market auction, suggest a future energy mix increasingly reliant on flexible and low-carbon technologies. But can such an energy mix provide the stability required to meet Poland’s growing demand?

At Aurora Energy Research, we explored this critical question in our recent public webinar, assessing:

  • The future of Poland’s energy mix – What will it look like if the current Capacity Market mechanism remains unchanged?

  • The resilience of a BESS-oriented system – Can Poland’s energy infrastructure withstand extreme weather events, including prolonged periods of low renewable generation?

  • Ensuring a robust power system – What additional policy interventions and investments are needed to maintain security of supply?
