Island economics: Renewable investment opportunities in the Balearic and Canary Islands

During the session, we will cover the applicable policies and regulations in the insular territories and the considerations for Investment Cases. Whilst renewable resources are more abundant on the islands compared to the peninsula, material costs can also be substantially higher, and environmental considerations can be more complex. We will present our analysis of the risks and opportunities for investing in renewable energy projects located in the Canary and Balearic Islands.

Despite strong renewables growth in recent years, both the Balearic and Canary Islands’ generation mixes remain dominated by fossil fuels, making them a priority for decarbonisation to help facilitate reaching National Climate plans. In this webinar, we will outline the subsidies that have been announced that aim to promote renewable growth in the Island systems and their impact on the renewable business case.

Hear from our team on the following questions:

  • What is the current regulatory framework in the Balearic and Canary Islands? What specific decarbonisation targets exist for these systems?
  • Which renewable support schemes are in place? What risks are associated with investment in renewable assets, and how can they be mitigated?
  • How is the power price formed? What are the drivers?
  • How do renewable investment cases compare to the peninsula?
  • How will the current regulatory framework evolve in the future?

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Eva Plana.
