Grid Curtailment: A recap of our Q2 JPN Subscriber Group Meeting

We hosted our in-person Group Meeting in Tokyo on April 17th and dived deep into the topic of curtailment in Japan with a focus on the following areas:

  • Unpacking the different types of curtailment: economic vs grid, their different drivers, as well as how they interact and impact overall project economics
  • A deep dive into our full network flow model and how this can be used to calculate the utilization of each individual transmission line in Japan, along with asset-specific curtailment
  • A number of asset-specific case studies, including:
    • A solar farm—drivers of grid curtailment and how the “headroom” of individual transmission lines give an indication for future curtailment/how seasonality looks for grid curtailment for a solar asset
    • A offshore wind farm—looking at key uncertainties and how participants can mitigate against them when choosing which sites to bid for in preparation for the upcoming offshore wind auctions
    • A BESS—the ability of co-located battery storage to actually mitigate grid curtailment for a solar or wind asset/the size it would need to be to make an impact

This webinar will provide an opportunity for Subscribers who were not able to attend the in-person Group Meeting to hear about our latest analysis on grid curtailment.
