Cycling in tandem – the value of battery co-location

A new amendment to the RES Act has been signed into law and enabled cable pooling in Poland, unlocking a range of new business models for renewables developers. The most exciting of these may be battery-solar co-location, which promises to increase the value of solar projects and allow investors to maximise the potential of limited grid connection capacities.

Co-location will raise the complexity of new investments. Beyond the day-ahead market, the value of intraday, balancing, and capacity markets will need to be understood, as will the dispatch of the co-located asset between these.

In this webinar, we will present the key findings of a wider analysis originally prepared for Aurora’s subscriber group and presented in Warsaw. This leverages our modeling of flexibility markets and simulation of battery dispatch to answer the key questions around co-location in Poland:

  • What is the new regulatory environment around co-location?
  • How does a co-located asset dispatch and what revenue streams does it rely on?
  • How can adding a co-located battery to a solar project improve its business case and what is the optimal configuration?
