Annual Outlook for the France Power Market

Across Europe, and particularly in France, 2022 was a tumultuous year for energy and power markets. With volatility seemingly settling down, the fog is progressively fading out and we can more accurately discern between conjunctural and structural changes affecting price formation. In this Group Meeting, we will first recap and comment on recent policy developments in France and Europe and discuss the biggest policy updates expected this year.

In taking a view on the long-term, we will for the first time consider two complementary approaches: the market standard approach to forecasting, defining our Central scenario based on the independent expertise of our research teams; and a novel market-consensus approach, building on the collective knowledge and beliefs of our customer base, as an (imperfect) representative sample of the market.

After presenting our annual market update (our Central April 2023), we will then move on to present and discuss an alternative market consensus scenario based on your vision of various market drivers (demand, extension of current nuclear fleet, EPR capacity, gas prices, and more).

Key elements of the discussion will include the following:

  • What are the key policy updates expected in France and Europe for 2023?
  • What are the last key changes in our Central scenario?
  • What is the market consensus view on key drivers affecting our model of power prices?
  • What are the impacts on the key outputs of the model?
