Speed and Scale: Load Growth Potential in Alberta

February 18 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm CST

As Alberta’s electricity market undergoes reforms, high load growth has become a critical focus, driven largely by hyperscale data centers, along with the electrification of transportation and increased adoption of electric heating and cooling. These trends have raised questions about the province’s capacity to absorb increased demand while maintaining reliability and price stability.

In this session, we will cover the following topics:

  • What are potential data center load growth trajectories in Alberta, and what factors influence them?
  • What are the impacts of increased data center growth in the province on pool prices, capacity expansion, and the economics of renewable assets?
  • What other developments will drive or reduce load growth in Alberta, and how do they compare to data centers? (Electric vehicles, heating & cooling, and potential industrial load growth)

If you are interested in joining the session, please reach out to JT Wood (jt.wood@auroraer.com).
