New York has historically set ambitious targets for renewables and energy storage, supported by innovative programs through NYSERDA and other state agencies. While merchant opportunities have historically been modest, these programs provide new pathways to de-risk investments.
By June 2025, NYSERDA will launch its first energy storage solicitation, the Index Storage Credit, modeled after their renewable procurement framework for Index RECs. This program aims to unlock further growth potential for energy storage to advance the state’s goals, adding momentum to an already strengthening merchant story.
