Power Play: Unlocking Battery Storage Potential in NYISO

February 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm CST

New York has historically set ambitious targets for renewables and energy storage, supported by innovative programs through NYSERDA and other state agencies. While merchant opportunities have historically been modest, these programs provide new pathways to de-risk investments.

By June 2025, NYSERDA will launch its first energy storage solicitation, the Index Storage Credit, modeled after their renewable procurement framework for Index RECs. This program aims to unlock further growth potential for energy storage to advance the state’s goals, adding momentum to an already strengthening merchant story.

During this session, we will present analysis and explore the future business case for batteries in New York:

  • What is Aurora’s outlook on merchant battery economics in NYISO? How can a battery optimize its arbitrage strategy in this market?
  • What opportunities and challenges does the new Index Storage Credit program bring for battery developers?
  • How do we expect the strike price for the Index Storage Credit to evolve, and how should developers approach risk assessment?
  • What role could distributed energy resources play in NYISO’s wholesale market?

If you are interested in joining the session, please reach out to Adelaine Bhattacharjee.
