The Kraftwerkssicherheitsgesetz—Implications for the Future of Gas-Fired Power Generation in Germany

October 22 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am CEST

Thank you for joining our webinar as we delved into the recently published consultation papers on the proposed Power Plant Security Act (Kraftwerkssicherheitsgesetz). This act envisions tenders for dispatchable power generation capacity with a total volume of 13 GW starting in 2025.
In this session, we dissected the key aspects of this policy measure, focusing on its implications for stakeholders looking to build or modernise gas-fired power plants by participating in the tenders.

During this session, key questions were addressed including the following:

  • How will the proposed auction design impact the type (new-build vs. retrofits) and location of gas-fired generation?
  • What is the relationship between the tenders and the plans for hydrogen pipeline infrastructure, and what risks are posed by potential delays in pipeline development?
  • Are the proposed rules for the fuel conversion to hydrogen sufficient to incentivise rapid plant construction?
  • What are the anticipated total costs of the tenders, and how effective are they in decarbonising the German power sector?

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Nicolas Leicht.
