Chile’s power market is at a pivotal moment, witnessing transformations that will shape its future. Recently, the Chilean National Electricity System has seen unprecedented hourly and locational price fluctuations, with curtailment increasing by 81% from 2022 to 2023. This trend is driven by the growing share of intermittent renewable capacity, primarily solar and wind, which accounted for approximately 37% of total capacity by the end of 2023.
As geographical supply-demand imbalances are expected to intensify with intermittent capacity continuing to increase away from demand centers, the power system faces diverse challenges that will impact power pricing across the country.
In this context of uncertainty, this webinar aims to offer an outlook for Chilean power prices under different scenarios. Alongside the Central outlook, we will present alternative scenarios to reflect a range of possible futures.
