The battery market in Chile is experiencing undeniable momentum, with 500 MW of battery capacity installed in 2024 and another 3.3 GW in the pipeline. Far more than just standalone assets, much of this growth is designed to unlock the full potential of a power system already supported by an impressive solar capacity—one that continues to grow.
Chile’s share of intermittent renewable generation has grown from 5% in 2015 to 41% in 2023 and is expected to climb to 55% by 2060. This is mostly driven by a tremendous growth of solar capacity, fuelling the need for storage solutions to ensure efficient integration in the system and avoid challenges such as reduced revenues due to cannibalization.
