By Popular Demand: Exploring the Future of Power Demand in Great Britain

July 12 @ 3:52 pm - 4:30 pm BST

In this GB Power & Renewables Subscriber Webinar, we explore the future of power demand in Great Britain.

The evolution of demand will play a key role in the next stage of the energy transition in Great Britain. While power demand in Great Britain has historically been driven by the industrial and domestic sectors, future growth is anticipated to stem from the electrification of sectors like transport, heat, green hydrogen, and artificial intelligence (AI). Despite government-set electrification targets, significant uncertainty surrounds their trajectory or feasibility.

Key questions to be explored in this session include:

  • Why has power demand in Great Britain declined over the past decade, and what does this imply about its elasticity?
  • What are the key drivers that underpin the evolution of power demand in the short and long term?
  • How could power demand in key sectors such as heat, transport, hydrogen, and AI realistically evolve?
  • How do baseload and capture prices vary under different power demand scenarios, and what does the investment outlook for renewable technologies look like in each?
  • How will subsidies and locational signals shape the evolution of power demand, and how does this affect power sector emissions?
