A Deep Dive into CAISO Load Growth

February 20 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm CST

As California pursues its ambitious decarbonization agenda, the composition of load in CAISO is changing as a result of electrification across various sectors. Electrification buildout, electric vehicle development, and the potential addition of new data centers are all key drivers of expected load growth, but questions regarding the magnitude and timing of their impact create uncertainty when evaluating future resource needs in CAISO.

In this session, we will explore the evolution of electricity demand and evaluate the impact of various demand scenarios on market outcomes. Discussion topics will include:

  • Summary of historical demand trends
  • Examination of how load composition is shifting in California
  • Assessment of key drivers of future load growth including electrification, electric vehicles, and data centers
  • Forward look to market outcomes under our Aurora Central outlook
  • Sensitivity analysis considering a variety of load growth scenarios across CAISO and their impacts on pricing and resource additions

If you are interested in joining the session, please reach out to Duncan Young (duncan.young@auroraer.com).
