Sonnedix leverages Aurora’s energy market analytics in large financing deal across various markets

MADRID (AURORA ENERGY RESEARCH)—Aurora Energy Research, the leading global provider of energy market analytics, is pleased to announce its role as the energy market analytics provider for Sonnedix in securing € 2.5 billion through refinancing. Forecasts and insightful analyses into the long-term trends of energy markets were utilized to support asset financing and to underpin investment strategies, providing tailored research into market developments.

The transaction is part of a wider €3.25 billion refinancing involving two transactions, marking the largest and most innovative initiative in Sonnedix’s history, according to the global renewable energy producer. The refinancings are designed to accelerate the growth of the company’s renewable energy pipeline, including wind, solar, energy storage, and hybrid projects, while providing significant financial flexibility and capacity to advance its development pipeline.

The supported transaction, finalised in December 2024, refinanced a 1.1 GW portfolio across Spain, Italy, and France, with scope to add new assets in Europe and the UK.  This Green and Sustainability-Linked Loan was backed by 15 lenders, with Crédit Agricole CIB and Santander CIB as co-financial advisors and A&O Shearman as legal advisor.

Ana Isabel Barillas, Managing Director, Iberia & LATAM, Aurora Energy Research, said:

“We are proud to have supported Sonnedix in this landmark financing as the energy market analytics provider. This transaction demonstrates how a robust evaluation of market risks, combined with precise modelling of the impact of innovative strategies like battery investments, empowers businesses to scale effectively and sustainably in the evolving energy landscape.”

Sonnedix’s CEO, Axel Thiemann, said:

“These landmark refinancings underpin our growth plans and demonstrate the scale of our growing portfolio of assets in Europe and the market’s confidence in our business model and ability execute over the long term. They send a strong signal to our customers and partners of our unwavering commitment to work alongside them and drive sustainable, long-term solutions to achieve net zero. I’m particularly excited about the opportunities the transactions give us to deliver our power marketing and hybridization strategies that mark the next phase of growth for Sonnedix. These financings ultimately position us to better address the evolving needs of our customers for clean, reliable, and affordable energy.”
