European Press Officer


We’re looking for someone with an inquisitive mind, and dynamism in abundance! This is an exciting vacancy, opening at a crucial time for Aurora. If you live on social media, and are always hunting for the next hot energy topic to write about, we’d love to hear from you! You will be responsible for taking our current media success, developing the strategy, and raising Aurora’s profile to stratospheric levels.

The successful candidate will report to the Marketing and Media Manager, and will liaise with both our energy research and consulting teams, as well as external media contacts. Superlative reporting skills, an outgoing and energetic personality, and the drive to immerse yourself in the ever-changing marketplace, are vital for this role.

Key responsibilities

  • Proactively building relationships to interest key energy journalists in our insights, and supply them with Aurora commentary on topical and timely energy market news
  • Reactive response to journalist enquiries, arranging for our experts to be interviewed and comment
  • Write clear, concise and effective press releases, articles and other collateral that will be used by national and industry media
  • Invite key press contacts to our industry-leading events, negotiating media partnerships with our Events Manager, and organising press conferences
  • Monitor media coverage, preparing a regular media update to share with our team
  • Take ownership of regular commentary about hot energy topics on our social media

Required attributes

  • A degree in an essay-based subject, which might be a language, economics, politics, history, environmental science, or similar
  • A good understanding of energy economics/policy/technology and current energy market issues
  • Ability to probe and question to gain a depth of understanding of a topic, and come up with a range of workable and creative solutions
  • Ability to communicate complex data, and transform it into an engaging press release
  • Experience with social media and building followership from journalists

Desirable attributes

  • Multi-lingual (English, French, Spanish or German are highly desirable)
  • 2-3 years’ experience working on energy/climate-related topics in a journalistic or public affairs setting (highly desirable)
  • Existing network within press industry (ideally in UK plus further European countries)
  • Familiarity with journalistic processes in some European countries
