We are pleased to present Aurora’s latest GB wholesale power market summary report. This report combines the highlights from our previous GB system, wind, company and plant performance notes.
Key highlights include:
- With gas prices rising by 54% from July, the average power price in August rose to £35.3/MWh – a £7.4/MWh (or 27%) increase from the previous month but still a 5% reduction from August 2019
- Monthly power demand in August increased by 0.2 TWh (or 1%) relative to July while the share of low carbon generation fell 5 p.p. to 55% of total demand in August
- The slight decrease in low carbon generation resulted in a 0.6 TWh (or 10%) rise in thermal generation and a consequent 0.2 MtCO2 (or 6%) increase in emissions relative to July
- Wind assets saw an increase in their profitability in August as wind capture prices increased by £8.4/MWh (or 33%) while load factors remained broadly similar to July’s average
