GB renewables monthly market summary – May 2021

We are pleased to present Aurora’s GB renewables monthly market summary report.

Highlights from May include:

  • Average power prices for May increased to £72.3/MWh (8.5%) vs April, driven by higher gas and carbon prices
  • The combination of higher baseload prices and load factors, relative to April, led to an increase in capture prices across all technologies by 11.8-12.4% for wind and 16.9% for solar vs April
  • Relative to historical average load factors for May, offshore wind and solar PV experienced reductions of 0.6 p.p. and 2.8 p.p., respectively, whilst onshore wind remained broadly aligned with the average
