The Aurora Energy Transition Summit Berlin 2025 provided a timely platform for industry leaders to examine the political, technical, and commercial dimensions of Germany’s evolving energy landscape and prepare for what lay ahead. Germany was undergoing a major reset of its energy policy, with wide-reaching changes across renewables, thermal generation, grid infrastructure, and storage. The government was revisiting its power plant strategy, with a potential capacity market under consideration to drive investment in firm generation, though important questions remained about technology neutrality and the roles of hydrogen and batteries.

Grid access and stability were becoming increasingly complex as more intermittent renewables and batteries connected to the system, while changing connection rules and regulatory uncertainty affected project planning. Meanwhile, reforms to the EEG and ambiguity around PPAs continued to challenge long-term commercial strategies.
